Though it is illegal for pranksters to shout about non-existent fires in a crowded theater, shrieking after an encounter with an under-seat gum wad is permissible. Shout about what's on the screen instead with today's deal: for $10, you get two individual screening tickets (a $20 value) to the 10th-annual deadCENTER Film Festival, running from Wednesday, June 9, through Sunday, June 13. This Groupon is valid for any showing in any of the festival's seven central locations, with the exception of the OKC Museum of Art.
For 10 years, this critically acclaimed film festival, the largest in Oklahoma City, has attracted filmmakers from around the world to showcase eclectic creations of independent-film arts. The name "deadCENTER" refers to Oklahoma City's geographic location in the center of the United States, along with the festival's central setting within OKC. There are seven locations that will be showing the fest’s documentaries, animated shorts, narrative features, kids shorts, midnight movies, comedy shorts, and Oklahoma-centric work. Hold tight to BMX legend Mat Hoffman’s handlebars for a wild ride in The Birth of Big Air (June 9 at 9:30 p.m., June 11 at 5:30 p.m.) or get an insider’s look into the meticulous process of movie reviewing in For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism (June 12 at 2:00 p.m.). DeadCENTER will also be showing the silent-film epic Metropolis (June 11 at 5:30 p.m.) in its recently discovered and restored version. Click here for a full list of all of the films in the festival and be sure to check the schedule to find out when they’re showing.
With two tickets in your holster, bring a film-buff buddy or go on two separate eye-saturating solo missions. Unlike blockbuster releases, deadCENTER Film Festival encourages intimate viewing experiences, providing many Q&A sessions with filmmakers after the shows. This year's special guests include Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze, Elvis Mitchell, Mat Hoffman, and Jesse Isenberg.
All screenings are seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Your Groupon must be exchanged for actual tickets, so be sure to allow extra time before your screening to exchange it.
