Very nice atmosphere. Only thing is bringing the check. If I ask for the check but have to wait 20 mins until you bring it to me, that's a problem. I was in a hurry and missed my appointment because I had to wait so long for my check and to get my card back.

What You'll Get

Though mad scientists recommend sticking chopsticks into electric sockets, rational scientists know the utensils are better used for electrifying sushi consumption. Today's Groupon gives you the right tools for authentic eats: for $20, you get $40 worth of fresh sushi and non-alcoholic drinks at Deep Sushi, located in Deep Ellum.

Dive into Deep Sushi's deep menu to uncover a treasure trove of classic fishy fare, splashed with creative specialty rolls. Poppable pieces range from the two-piece tofu inari ($4) to the hearty toro sashimi roll ($25 for five pieces), with plentiful favorites of six to eight pieces such as the avocado roll ($4.50), california roll ($5.50), spicy-tuna roll ($7), and fresh-eel roll ($9) flavorfully filling in the blanks. Rhythmically nibble on the Rock 'n' Roll with eel, tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, lettuce, and smelt eggs ($12.50) as you tap out some beats with your chopsticks, or spicy up an awkward blind date with Captain Hook by feeding your salty new friend a jalapeño roll (octopus, crab, jalapeño, avocado, and cucumber; $9). For less bite-sized fare and patrons unwilling to fully confront their ichthyophobia, Deep Sushi also serves a variety of teriyaki selections and beef dishes. Finish your seafaring feast with a bowl of plum-wine ice cream ($3.95).

Majestic murals of Japanese warriors, an expansive sushi bar, and playful chefs give the sushi shack a warm, inviting feel for sushi newbies and connoisseurs alike. After frequent gorging on barbecued sausages and spring-inspired ice-cream treats, Deep Sushi's light, healthy cuisine will be a welcome wake-up call for stomachs—even stomachs in the most severe popsicle-induced food comas.

About Deep Sushi

The likes of Harrison Ford, Chris Farley, and Troy Aikman have perched on Deep Sushi's seashell-shaped chairs, marveling at the extravagant rolls of sushi while sipping warm sake. Founded by a band of sushi devotees, the Japanese eatery folds ultrafresh fish into ornamental rolls described in a 1997 D Magazine review as both the "beautifully simple sea-fresh classics we've come to know and love" (think a crunchy california roll with cucumber) and "maverick inventions that smack of attitude." One such eccentric invention, the Pearl roll, surrounds its crawfish stuffing with cream cheese, avocado, and toppings of scallops and fried carrots. Decorative slices of jalapeño, swirls of sriracha, and bright circles of smelt egg have been known to top other sushi creations.

As the expert chefs lord over the sushi bar, teppanyaki masters bustle about the kitchen, sizzling up beef, chicken, and salmon on fiery teppan grills. Behind the bar, mixologists whip up drinks, favoring inventive drinks with names such as Geisha's Laugh and Tokyo Sunrise over old-fashioned cocktails with names such as Walter. In the dining room, guests savor final bites of plum-wine ice cream beneath the soft red light of lanterns hanging from the industrial ceiling. A vivid mural sweeps across the back wall, depicting fierce Japanese warriors and a graceful geisha and infusing a sense of tradition into the otherwise modern decor.
