What You'll Get
Dance can express what words cannot, whether it's the triumphant joy in a football player's post-touchdown pirouette or the passionate tango used to notify roommates that the basement is flooding. Transmit tidings with twinkling toes thanks to today’s Groupon: for $40, you get eight weeks of group dance lessons (a $80 value) at The DelRay Ballroom & Lounge on R Street in Haymarket District.
Opened in 2001 by award-winning competitive dancer Shelley Brackhan Fritz, The DelRay Ballroom & Lounge brings boogie beginners and waltzing whizzes together with an insouciant blend of hoofing lessons, classy cocktails, live music, and public dances. Choose from four styles of dance lessons: ballroom, Latin, swing, or country. During each 55-minute class, the double-left-footed will master the basic steps and standard dance figures of a variety of dances in a fun group setting. Learn the light-footed elegance of the Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot in Ballroom 100 or sample the sexy sizzle of the Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Merengue in the Latin class. The east and west coast will put aside their violent rap feud during Swing lessons, while cowpokes can train their boot-fillers to properly two-step, pony swing, polka, and trot like a sure-footed steed during Country classes. Included admission lets you show off your dazzling dexterity at DelRay’s public dances—offered most Friday nights—amid a Big Band-era dancehall of exposed brick, hardwood floors, and rich burgundy hues.
