Hills and mountains are formed by vast underground food deposits, which, over time, stretch the landscape into soft mounds of untapped edibility. Dig into the bounty of British Columbia with today’s Groupon: for $21, you get a “Delilah’s Ladies” martini flight ($27) and $15 worth of sophisticated gastrofare at Delilah's Conviction Gastropub (a $42 total value). The $15 credit can only be used toward food purchases.
Delilah's, a Vancouver mainstay for a quarter of a century, was recently reconceived by husband-and-wife team Marc Thuet and Biana Zorich, creators of the CityTV reality series Conviction Kitchen. The second season of the series, which features 12 ex-cons recovering from dark pasts and rebuilding their lives by working the kitchen and front of house at Delilah's, is currently being filmed at the eatery through August 6. Under the guidance of highly lauded Chef Thuet, the kitchen's ex-cons execute his newly conceived menu of sophisticated gastropub fare as the serving staff of recently freed foodies ferry the inventive eats to your table under the watchful eyes of professional documentarians. Peruse the menu and summon their assistance in starting a supper with an order of the rabbit poutine ($9), or saddle your stomach up for a taste of the tender horsemeat tartare ($18). Entrees at the eatery include a locally raised pork chop ($32), served with a plum-and-rhubarb compote; the Convict bison burger ($19), with braised pork belly, choron sauce, and an optional four-ounce addition of seared foie gras (an extra $12); and the Nass River sockeye salmon ($28), with a chorizo ragout and gnocchi.
For libation-seeking livers, Delilah's boasts an extensive menu of more than 40 flavoured varietals of the up-served delights. Included with this deal is the "Delilah’s Ladies" martini flight, a trio of martini tastes that contains the Bitter Betty, a mixed ginger, vodka, Cassis, and bitters beverage; the Black Widow, featuring blackberry-infused vodka mixed with blackberry liqueur and blackberry juice; and the Ruby Slipper, a glorious glass of raspberry-infused vodka, raspberry liqueur, and a splash of cran-raspberry juice. Revive your reality-show career by sneaking into the background of a dramatic shot or dazzle a dapper date with dinner and the making of a TV series at Delilah's Conviction.
The $15 credit may only be used toward food items. Call ahead for a reservation.
Though few reviews have yet to appear since the Delilah's rebranding for season two of Conviction Kitchen, online reviews have long been praising their famous martinis. TripAdvisors give the restaurant a 3.5-star average, Yelpers give it four, and 85 per cent of Urbanspooners like it:
- I love your fun and daring drinks, your nosy but talented bartenders, your slightly cheesy music, your colourful history. – Christie S., Yelp
- LUV the tinis [sic] – LINDA R., Yelp
- If you're looking for a relaxed place to enjoy some great martini's and fantastic food in the west end this is the place to go! – bellamangare, TripAdvisor
