Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Am I correct in assuming that copying a 6 hr vhs tape to dvd would count as 3 units in this promotion

Scott  asked on  Jan 11, 2013

A:

That is correct. Each DVD holds 2 hours. If your tape runs longer than two hours, it will require a second, our third DVD. Each would be considered a tape to DVD. Thank you, Michael

Q:

i have kind of the opposite problem. I have several tapes with less than 2 hours. Some as little as 15 minutes. I have no issue with tapes being combined. Is that a problem?

Mary A.  asked on  Jan 11, 2013

A:

Mary, We do offer the service to combine two tapes to one DVD. There is an additional fee of $4.00 per tape. This Groupon offer is designed for one tape to one DVD. We would be happy to extend the combination service to you with this offer. Please be sure to mention to our customer service staff when placing your order.

Q:

I have tapes that were made by someone else (another parent) of recitals and the like that my kids participated in while in school. I don't see a copyright notice on the box (I no longer have VHS playback, so I don't know if it is on the tape, but it seems unlikely to me). Is it OK to have these copied, or is this considered copyrighted material?

Robin  asked on  Jan 12, 2013

A:

Most likely, no. :)

Annette B.  from  Self  replied on  Jan 12, 2013

A:

If they are tapes that were shot by a parent, not a professional video service, they are most likely are not copyrighted. We can check the tapes for copyright when we prep the tapes for transfer. Please mention it to our staff when you summit your tapes.

Q:

Concerning my question of whether the ArcSoft software works on a Mac: if Arcsoft doesn't run on Macs, is the DVD in a format that would allow me to edit it on my Mac with other software?

Amy S.  asked on  Jan 14, 2013

A:

Out of the box, the DVD is not ready for editing. For MAC users, we recommend using Handbrake, which is a free program to "RIP" your DVD. http://handbrake.fr/ . This will convert the DVD in to a file that you can edit. Then, use Imovie to edit your DVD.

Q:

I have mini-DV tapes that are very precious to me. I don't want to take the risk of losing any of this in the mail to you and back to me. I live in Fremont; can I come and get it done in person at your store while I wait? I have 12 mini DV tapes. Thanks.

Shumon G.  asked on  Jan 14, 2013

A:

Do to our high volume, we could not do them while you wait. However, we do all the work here in our lab and your tapes are safe and secure. We apply a Bar code ID label to your tapes. This allows us to track your tapes through out the entire process. We would be happy to log your order in while you wait.

Q:

I have a number of MiniDV tapes that I'd like transferred. Each is just a little over 1 hour long. I believe no more than 1 hour and 2 or 3 min. Is the 2 hour limit for the DVD's a hard limit. Is it possible to get 2 of my MiniDV tapes transferred to a single DVD. If not, I can go with just getting each on a separate DVD. Thanks!

Herman Y.  asked on  Jan 14, 2013

A:

The maximum run time for our DVDs is actual 2hrs and 6 minutes. We can combine two tapes to one DVD. There is a combining fee of $4.00 per tape that would apply. This would allow you to get two MDV tapes on one DVD.
