What You'll Get

Dancing in the wrong setting can lead to broken lamps, bewildered pets, and accidentally summoning torrential downpours. Cut loose in the right place with today's Groupon: for $15, you get a ticket to The Final Preakness Prep Kentucky Derby day infield party at the Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, May 7 at noon.

In preparation for the the Preakness, a venerated 136-year-old annual race for 3-year-old horses, an infield party on Kentucky Derby day will combine the anticipatory excitement of frothing steeds with the pleasures of live music and bottomless beer mugs. An all-ages concert at the outdoor infield beer garden broadcasts the lilting melodies and savage power chords of the Plain White T's and Sons of the Radio, allowing for a variety of dance styles with a very basic dress code. Of-age concertgoers receive beer mugs that never runneth over to allow for a sun-drenched, languorous-limbed musical celebration. Underage guests and furious tectonic hoofers can stay hydrated with unlimited water and soda.

About Pimlico Race Course

“Pimlico is more than a dirt track bound by four streets,” explained then-Maryland Club president Alfred G. Vanderbilt 50 years ago. Vanderbilt was referring to Pimlico’s status as an “American institution,” a title it has earned as the country’s second oldest racetrack. Founded in 1870, Pimlico has weathered everything from World War II to the day steeds skipped work en masse to see Seabiscuit, and remains a popular destination to this day as host to the US Triple Crown’s second leg, the Preakness Stakes. In its four-star Terrace dining room, patrons dine on buffet breakfasts and lunches as they view thoroughbreds galloping to the finish line. Meanwhile, the screens in the venue’s Sports Palace project simulcasts of offsite races, and the patrons seated in the Jockey Club enjoy especially clear views of the competing horses without having to glue equine portraits to the insides of their sunglasses.
