Amazing Doctor and Staff! I went to the office in Encino as it was closer to me. The front desk people were very welcoming and friendly and Dani - the lady who gave me a deep cleaning is sooooo nice - I hardly knew I was at the Dentist. The Dentist himself is a very nice and generous man! I found my regular dentist after all these years!

It was clean however I was a little put off going for a "teeth whitening" and have to put down all my medical insurance info for a Groupon. I didn't care to hear that my teeth were so yellow that it would take more like 3 times to get them whiter. It made me feel worse then when I came in.

I’ve had teeth whitening several times from different offices. The session at the Design Dental Spa didn’t seem to do anything to whiten my teeth. The doctor showed the chart stating how much it lightened after the session, but you really didn’t even get a good look before you were rushed out of the office. Just pay the full price or you’ll get the worse service

A very dishonest approach to selling a "60-minute in-office Zoom Teeth Whitening Treatment"! It's listed on Groupon with the original price of $755 but with a very deep discount, you only pay $95. I was very skeptical of the price but thought, with their high rating, maybe it's the real deal Zoom Whitening. No, it's not! You're not getting the real Philips Zoom procedure! In reality (at Design Dental Spa), they 1) put a whitening gel inside a tray (not sure if it's really from Zoom). 2) Turn on the blue LED light which is NOT a Zoom blue LED light (twice, 25-minute intervals without adding any whitening gel). 3) No plastic retractor to protect lips, gums, cheeks and tongue! The statements below are from the Informed Consent Form provided by Philips Zoom and here's a YouTube video by Philips: "DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE Zoom in-office tooth whitening is a procedure designed to lighten the color of my teeth using a combination of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED light lamp. The Zoom treatment involves using the gel and lamp in conjunction with each other to produce maximum whitening results in the shortest possible time. During the procedure, the whitening gel will be applied to my teeth and my teeth will be exposed to the light from the Zoom lamp for four (4) 15 minute sessions. During the entire treatment, a plastic retractor will be placed in my mouth to help keep it open and the soft tissues of my mouth (i.e., my lips, gums, cheeks and tongue) will be covered to ensure they are not exposed to either the gel or light. I will be provided a visible LED light filter for my eyes. After the treatment is completed, the retractor and all gel and tissue coverings will be removed from my mouth. Before and after the treatment, the shade of my upper-front teeth will be assessed and recorded."

They show you the whiting gel in a syringe and the desensitization gel. Try to upsell you on paying an extra $30 for the desensitizing gel saying it’ll be excruciating. Then they take a completely different larger syringe and use that to fill a silicon like tray they put in your mouth. There’s no gum protection at all and I highly doubt the blue light can penetrate the massively thick trays

How Coffee Stains Teeth: Color, Caffeine, and Corrosion

Coffee is one of the most common staining agents that teeth whitening combats. Find out why with Groupon’s examination of how coffee can tarnish your pearly whites.

When gazing into an inky-black cup of coffee, it’s not hard to imagine that it could stain your teeth. But while its color certainly can yellow chompers before their time, coffee has other nefarious tricks up its chemical sleeve that can leave their mark on your mouth. One is the same thing that gives a cup of joe its pep: caffeine, which also causes dehydration and decreases the production of saliva. Affectionately dubbed “the mouth’s bloodstream” by the dental community, saliva naturally combats stain-causing bacterial invasions and helps protect enamel. Enamel also comes under attack from coffee’s acidity, which makes its way through the pores of each tooth’s protective coating, darkening the dentin and keeping gums up past their bedtime.

Short of giving up coffee, there are a few things you can do to prevent stains in the first place or to prolong the effects of whitening. Brushing your teeth right after draining the last drop is best, and chewing sugarless gum will help kick saliva production back into gear. If you take your coffee iced, even drinking through a straw can help—it sends the liquid right past the front teeth, where stains are most visible.
