About Desire Oyster Bar
The renovated Desire Oyster Bar reopened its doors in March 2015 with a flourish: a brass band set the swinging soundtrack, and a burlesque dancer entertained the crowd. Eager diners caught their first look at the restaurant's gleaming new interior, retro-fitted to the traditional Bourbon Street aesthetic. The space's tin ceiling and mosaic tile floor remain, complemented by iron grillwork, french doors, and an antique mirror behind the bar.
No Ordinary Shuckers
The restaurant is known first and foremost for its fine shellfish, but NBC News notes how diners flock to Desire Oyster Bar for its "entertaining oyster shuckers" as well. These staffers are as skillful at opening shells as they are at delighting visitors; as NewOrleans.com says, "[They] deserve bonus points for character and charm."
Simple Pleasures
Eater praises the bar's oysters as "a simple pleasure done well," treats guests can sample just-shucked, deep fried, or fresh from the char-grill station. Also on Executive Chef Corey Jacobs' menu are classic Louisiana dishes, including the Creole Trio: jambalaya, red beans and rice, and gumbo.
