The address was difficult to program into our GPS. The street address, Detour, MD, zip code yieilded nothing. Nor did the business name. I found directions in a roundabout way. Since the winery is off the beaten path have them give directions with next Groupon offer. I did let them know of our GPS problem. Why must you publish my name?

Nice wines in a nice setting but tasting is inside with no view. You have to buy a bottle to sit outside.

What You'll Get

Wine-tasting technique demands that you first swirl the glass, then take a sip, and then very slowly dribble wine down your chin so that the rest of your body can taste it. Imbibe elegance with this Groupon.

$25 for Two Tickets to How Sweet It Is Dessert-and-Wine-Pairing Event ($50 Value)

Pairs get the chance to sip five 1 oz. samples of wine paired with five two-bite drool-worthy dessert samples. Reservations are required to attend the How Sweet It Is event, held February 9, 10, 16, and 17, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Though this merchant sometimes offers a discounted price online, this Groupon is still the best deal available.

About Detour Winery

Detour Winery is not a big-name brand, but this smallish quality is part of the estate's charm. The other part is its location in the shadow of Catoctin Mountain. Here, close enough to Mother Nature to steal her purse, travelers can stop and savor life in the presence of wildflowers, grapes, pavilions, and softball fields.

The proprietor, Daniel Tamminga, cultivate award-winning wines—their current offerings cover all the bases from fruit and dessert wines to reds, whites, and blushes. But they also cultivate a healthy community with wine festivals, youth athletic-program sponsorships, and a summer concert series. They welcome weddings and corporate events onto their property and routinely host winemaking classes to help out new brewers, much to the horror of unstomped grapes everywhere.
