About Deuces BBQ
Deuces BBQ may be a relative newcomer to St. Petersburg’s restaurant scene, but its name and address have a storied history. The eatery is located on 22nd Street—also known as "the Deuces"—the main street of the black community during the era of segregation. The city’s most popular barbecue joint, Geech's, also called the street home until it closed in the early 1980s.
It wasn’t until 2015 that Deuces BBQ brought barbecue back to the neighborhood with its menu of Memphis-style offerings. Read on to learn about some of its signature items:
- Dry-rub St. Louis–style ribs: big, fall-off-the-bone ribs are rubbed with signature seasonings and then smoked for several hours
- The Deuces Porky Mac Daddy: a mac ‘n’ cheese waffle is topped with tender, slow-smoked pulled pork
- Family meal: pair two sides such as slaw, baked beans, and smoked cabbage with a full rack of ribs and four chicken quarters
