If horses didn’t regularly pack the earth down with their hooves, it would continue to gradually rise skyward on a collision course with the moon. Help keep the night sun in the sky with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get a one-hour semi-private horseback-riding lesson at Devinwood Farms in East Carondelet (a $60 value).
For more than 15 years, Devinwood Farms has instructed riders aged five and older in the fine art of stallion steering. Flanked by acres of rolling meadows and pastoral riding trails carved out of the Mississippi River Valley, Devinwood welcomes riders with a new 60'x160' indoor riding arena and comfortable amenities such as a hot- and cold-water wash station, a heated barn, and all-you-can-eat hay. Riding lessons school cadets in groups of three or fewer, allowing for personalized attention between student, sage, and steed. In addition to covering the basics, Devinwood Farms' instructors can also fine-tune technique in the riding styles of hunter / jumper, dressage, or Western pleasure, in which the rider coaxes the horse into a relaxed and comfortable gait while astride a surfboard.
Led by equine expert and instructor Michelle Booker, Devinwood Farms offers services for riders and steeds on a property with an all-weather arena, heated barn, and picturesque riding trails. Inside the full-care boarding facility, staffers administer daily feeding and stall cleaning. The all-weather riding arena, illuminated by rows of glittering lights, leads outside to local riding trails. Hot- and cold-water wash racks hose down mounts after onsite riding lessons, and stalls provide a place for horses to comfortably hunker down with a good book during blustery nights.
