Took the kids this past Saturday and we had a blast! Be sure to take lots of water, it does get very hot and you don't want to get dehydrated. There are LOTS of shady spots to dig around the perimeter though so no worries about finding a cool spot out of the sun. I think when we go back, we'll wait until the fall months when it is a bit cooler. We did find some really cool quartz and crystals and small amethysts. Can't wait to go back!! Hopefully they'll do another groupon that will be valid for the fall months!! Thanks Diamond Hill Mine!

Take a sledge hammer! Not great for young kids.

About Diamond Hill Mine

Diamond Hill Mine sets visitors loose on 5 to 6 acres of dumps and spoil piles, challenging them to unearth the property's cache of quartz crystals and pieces of amethyst. During outings, explorers use their own rakes, shovels, and tools while excavating the land, or while trying to find un-dug veins, where some crystals have gone undisturbed for more than 400 million years. Every piece found on the property is authentic, meaning the mine hasn't been planted with artificial crystals or with forgotten hidden engagement rings.
