Though considered merely cosmetic by some, trees affect much more than the scenery of a yard or garden. Rising global temperatures are the result of trapped greenhouse gases created by the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of the world's rainforests. Digdown—a project of the Quality of Life Foundation—is dedicated to combating the oxygen-depleting effects of deforestation by planting native and fruit-bearing trees throughout the Bay Area, enriching communities and the lives of those who live in them.
Digdown strategically plants ecosystem- and economy-assisting trees in residential areas, utilizing the plants' natural environment-boosting properties for the betterment of both humans and animals. Planted native trees help conserve energy and water by providing shade and cooling, while lessening grass' need for water and bolstering the moisture level of the atmosphere. Partnering with Pie Ranch, a volunteer-driven, developmental, sustainable farm, Digdown plans to recruit San Francisco high-school students to plant 50 fruit trees in Pie Ranch's 10-acre fields, educating young adults on the many ecological and economical benefits of trees while engaging in a hands-on learning activity. The trees will also provide the ranch with organic produce to sell at its farm stand and convert to pie form at Mission Pie in the Mission and Companion Bakers in Santa Cruz.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Digdown purchase and plant an eco-friendly community-bolstering orchard of fruit trees at Pie Ranch. The organization's goal of $1,250 will allow it to purchase at least 50 fruit trees. For each $10 donation, the Quality of Life Foundation will donate an additional $10. Though Quality of Life has already allocated funding to Digdown, each $10 donation is on top of the project's budget, so every $10 increment is in addition to Digdown's current fiscal budget.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
