Speaking to the person on the phone who sets up the appointments it was evident that they were extremely unorganized. It took entirely too long for me to tell them “please put me down for this date”. Regardless eventually it happened. The instructor was knowledgeable but I feel as though the class was kind of like “okay we are in a field now go take some photos and then you can share it with each other”. It wasn’t what I thought I was getting. I decided I will just learn techniques on my own. The other issue came when I showed up in downtown Houston trying to find parking. I ended up having to walk almost a mile to get to the park area where we were walking and then having to run back and forth feeding the meter. I would have picked a better place with easier parking access.

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback Ashkan. I am Richard, and probably the person you spoke with in getting signed up and I have to agree with you, sometimes things are disorganized around here. We are a small group and have teachers in 24 cities which is a bit unwieldy. It sounds like parking was a hassle and in Houston weather, that much more frustrating. As for being sent out on your own, this is not supposed to happen so I will talk with the instructor. And in that workshop there were only a few of you, all the more reason that you should have received close attention for the 3 hours. Do you want to try again as my guest after I talk with the teacher? I can be reached on my cell, 917 597 7053.

What You'll Get

Photographers swiftly capture what sluggish painters cannot, such as the sparkle of a fleeting smile, the identity of a media-shy superhero, or the split second a peregrine falcon breaks the sound barrier. Attain photographic know-how with this Groupon to Digital Photo Academy. Choose between two options:

  • For $49, you get a three-hour Composition in the Field workshop for one (a $99 value).
  • For $89, you get the above workshop for two (a $198 value)

Workshops are held on Saturday and Sunday at various times and locations.

Professional photographers and instructors, such as Rick Gerrity, Stephen Harris, and Bill Blanchard teach shutterbugs of all skill levels how to creatively ensnare memories in Digital Photo Academy's array of informative classes. The Composition in the Field workshop fans artistic flames and helps cameras to break a sweat during three-hour on-location workshops with an intimate group of 10 or fewer people. During each open-air outing, the photography gurus guide lenses toward flawless lighting, thoughtful framing, and stealthy snapshots of bald eagles not wearing their hairpieces.

Students choose from various locations, class times, and themes, including a snap fest of the colorful foliage and rushing waters of Bushkill Falls, a stroll through Princeton's historic campus, and a jaunt across the quaint boardwalks and scenic beaches of Ocean Grove and Asbury Park. Participants should plan to schlep their own digital camera and any other equipment, such as a tripod, to the site of their picturesque adventure.
