Some things, such as ice sculpture and an ax-wielding ice hater, can never coexist peacefully, but seafood and man get along swimmingly. Embark on a friend-finding mission with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $45 worth of seafood and drinks at Ocean Room in the Gaslamp Quarter.

The Ocean Room held five meetings over the course of five days with the ocean king, Poseidon, before finalizing the restaurant to his exact specifications. The result is a seafood haven with Brazilian blue-marble counters, elegant wood flooring, fiber-optic lighting, and absolutely no ceramic replications of the kraken to intimidate eaters. An oyster display and sushi bar complete the peaceful seaward atmosphere as hungry pescatarians chomp their way through the menu. Warm up your belly cauldron with an elegant hamachi nigiri ($5) and a sweet-apple martnini ($8), or practice your shooting technique with the oyster shooter, with ponzu, green onion, Chinese chili paste, and diced tomato ($3).

Once the big appetites splash against the sides of your ship, respond with a helping of bouillabaisse packed with crab, prawns, lobster, fresh fish, mussels, and clams ($26), or enjoy a hearty shrimp roast, shrimp pan roasted with butter, garlic, cream, and tomatoes, and served with rice ($18). A freshly caught helping of mahi-mahi goes down nicely with lemon, capers, and asparagus tips in a cream sauce with steamed rice ($21), or for those who haven't yet learned to swim, a hearty filet mignon in peppercorn sauce with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes will keep the sea at bay ($28).

Between tempting our imaginations with the musical splendor of The Little Mermaid and then dashing our dreams of an underwater utopia with The Perfect Storm, the ocean has frequently led us astray, and therefore owes us some fish and bivalves. What the sea offers, receive with simplicity, humility, and a trademark shrimping hat.
