The national cast of Oklahoma! entreats audiences to song and dance numbers about a small-town community abounding with bidding wars, love yarns, and horse-drawn wagons filled with lost pit orchestra violinists. The show’s full outdoor sets and brightly colored period costumes set the mood for an evening of frontier festivities.
Discoveryland!'s park opens at 6 p.m., where diners can settle into a country-fare ranch dinner of a barbecue beef brisket sandwich, coleslaw, sweet corn, and baked beans. Mouth-wrestle your meal in scenic Indian Oaks picnic grove or the park's outdoor covered ranch barn while scribbling out postcards to send by Pony Express. Kid companions can divert themselves from difficult trigonometric proofs with free guided pony rides. Discoveryland!'s Native American dancers perform in feathered splendor from 7 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by a Western musical revue at 7:30 p.m. replete with high kicking cancan dancers that warm up crowds and patellas for the main event.
