The best pizzas, like the worst Elvis impersonators, are cheesy, saucy, and often live in cardboard boxes. Sink your teeth into a doughy classic with today's Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of pizza at The Dish Famous Stuffed Pizza in Liberty.

The Dish Famous Stuffed Pizza crafts toppings-laden disks of dough by hand, shaping each crust to customer specifications. Hungry mouths can order a 14-inch deep-dish ($17) or thin-crust ($12) cheese pizza, and the Taylor Street ($22.50 for 14" deep dish) struggles under the Bunyanesque weight of its sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions. Chicken, red onion, bacon, and cheddar and mozzarella cheeses fill the barbecue-chicken calzone ($9), and platefuls of pasta dishes ($9.50+) let diners carbo-load without requiring them to run marathons. And although The Dish Famous Stuffed Pizza's signature two-dimensional spheres can be found in grocery-store freezer aisles, visiting the restaurant saves pizza lovers from the stress associated with shopping-cart jousting.

Dish Famous Stuffed Pizza

Liberty, Missouri, is slightly out of the delivery zone of most Chicago pizzerias, so when Jason and Mattie Ransom moved there, they needed another way to get their fix of deep-dish pizza. They decided to try their hand at recreating their favorite pie from scratch, unknowingly laying the groundwork for Dish Famous Stuffed Pizza.

The Ransom’s homespun recipe for Chicago-style deep-dish pizza has lasted more than 15 years, first gracing the tables of their restaurant before spreading out to grocery stores and forward-thinking vending machines. At their eatery, they still sling dough each day, complementing deep-dish disks with thin-crust and hand-tossed pies, half-pound Black Angus burgers, Chicago-style italian beef sandwiches, and 50 different bottles of imported and craft beer.
