Experienced staffers guide beginner instruction & diving in 12-foot-deep heated pool

Somewhere far below sea level, the most fashionable critters in the subsurface world are gracefully strutting their stuff in form-fitting wetsuits with foot-flattering flippers. Grace the coveted underwater runways of exploration with today's Groupon: for $10, you get a Discover Scuba class at Dive Utah in Holladay (a $25 value). Classes are held at least one evening per week, and can be scheduled at special times for groups of four or more.

Dive Utah’s aquatic experts channel years of experience into 60-minute Discover Scuba classes, held in the heated depths of a 60'x30' pool. Instructors outfit pupils with all necessary underwater accessories before exploring diving fundamentals on dry land, including safety tips, equipment instruction, and how to intimidate aggressive seaweed. Students then plunge into the pool for the remainder of class, venturing into a pristine faux sea that descends 12 feet below buoy level. Patrons squelch through spacious locker rooms after class and rinse off in private showers staffed with merpeople towel attendants. Attendees must be older than 8 and in good health in order to dive.

About Dive Utah

Divers as young as 9 can try on their flippers at Dive Utah to breathe underwater for the first time during Discover Scuba classes. Alternatively, more experienced students can hone their skills through open-water dives and more extensive training that can put them on their way to becoming instructors themselves. They can also strive to become PADI Master Scuba Divers, a certification that comes after 50 logged dives, at which point masters might feel it necessary to start wearing black belts to the pool.
