What You'll Get
Somewhere far below sea level, the most fashionable critters in the subsurface world are gracefully strutting their stuff in form-fitting wetsuits with foot-flattering flippers. Explore underwater runways with today's Groupon: for $199, you get to take a PADI open-water diver course at Divers Supply (a $389 value). The course includes two evening training sessions and at-home learning materials. With this deal, students also get a $50 discount off any additional scuba package. Certification dive trip is not included with your Groupon.
Rated a five-star training facility by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, Divers Supply endows aspiring Jacques Cousteaus with sea-submergence skills through capable coaching. Prior to taking a plunge into the deep, pupils enrolled in the open-water dive course receive a PADI crew pack, which is a CD-ROM-based program that illustrates diving basics and the importance of owning a waterproof computer. Following at-home learning, a classroom session quizzes gill seekers on their knowledge. Finally, instructors guide students into the pool so that they can practice performing underwater tasks such as breathing, kicking while breathing, and blowing on hot tea.
In addition to bringing a swimsuit and towel, students must supply their own diver-quality mask, fins, dive boots, snorkel, and weights. After completing the course, students receive one year of membership in the Divers Supply Dive Club, which yields discounts on rental equipment.
