Helmed by expert instructor Gina Wasserlein, the teachers at Downtown Yoga Studio lead all levels of body-benders through more than 30 weekly classes. In the Hot Power Yoga class, practitioners flow between poses in a sequence designed to purge toxins and generate enough body heat to lower home heating bills. Alternatively, Better Backs sessions focus on twists and bends to buttress core stability while simultaneously releasing tension from the hips and hamstrings. Further classes include Meditation & More, which combines gentle postures and breathing techniques to help students shed stress, attain clarity, and remember where they parked their car at the mall last week. The schedule slates classes every day of the week beginning as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 8:30 p.m.

When Gina Wasserlein received a Bryan Kest yoga video from a friend, she had no idea it would change her life. After practicing its routines for several months, she felt peaceful, light, and happy. Drawing upon experience from the worlds of fitness and grade-school teaching, she founded Downtown Yoga Studio to help fellow yogis unlock the joy and wisdom that lie within. Knowledge gleaned from her teaching staff and mentors such as Jonny Kest, Seane Corn and Daylene Christensen has shaped her class schedule, which explores yogic traditions such as Ashtanga and Yin Yoga. Filled with basic poses and breathing exercises, beginners’ classes build upon flexibility and calmness. Advanced practitioners can challenge their minds and bodies during hot power yoga classes, with elevated temperatures to promote cleansing and detoxification. The studio also offers Ashtanaga Mysore classes which promote a deeper sense of meditation while students practice at their own pace.
