Jason, As a trade ally for Consumers & DTE that has done nearly 1500 Full BPI (Building Performance Institute) audits, many of which were for handyman/DIYers/and contractors, we have only met with 10 homeowners that we could not help in some way or another, or enlightened with education on their home - even with the construction knowledge they may have already had. A Full BPI Certified audit gets you 2 people for 3-4 hours doing testing procedures that includes a blower door test, which finds all the areas your home is wasting energy, a thermal camera tour, and safety testing to make sure your appliances are not leaking gas or carbon monoxide into your home. If you choose to have work done on your home, we also provide a free test out procedure to measure the results. The Consumers Energy offer you are referrring to is only a 30-45 minute visual walkthrough of your home, it does not include the testing that we offer. Other energy auditing firms are charging $400-$500 for what we are offering for only $79.00 If you have any other questions on what the BPI audit entails vs. the free Consumers survey, feel free to call us @ 517-646-4026.
