What You'll Get

Sea urchins are the healthiest, most relaxed creatures on Earth due to their positive self-image and spiny skin. Today's Groupon offers similar protection from stress, sickness, and sea otters. For $45, new customers get an acupuncture treatment and bodywork session from Christopher Trahan, O.M.D., at Olympus Center in the Flatiron District (up to a $150 value).

Christopher Trahan has more than 30 years of clinical experience as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine. He trained in mainland China and is nationally board certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. His approach to overall health is as round as a horse's eye. Acupuncture treatment is integrated with Chinese and Western herbs and homeopathy. Your first visit includes a consultation and evaluation. After your diagnosis and a treatment plan are discussed, the actual acupuncture treatment starts. The treatment includes acupressure and other bodywork techniques. Dr. Trahan will supply prescriptions for natural and herbal supplements if needed. Email ahead to schedule an appointment.

Western medicine has long remained unable to explain why pincushions never get sick. With the growing popularity of acupuncture, the answer has become self-evident. The technique draws on the ancient concept of qi, the life force that flows through the body, and remains a vital part of health care in Asian and Western countries. It works by applying small, virtually painless needles to areas of the body where qi likes to hang out, stimulating proper energy flow and relieving impediments to good health. In 2003, the World Health Organization issued a review of clinical trials, which suggested acupuncture might be effective treatment for a range of conditions including headache, nausea, sprains, and allergies. Even if you already feel as fit as a pincushion, the process can de-stress, invigorate, and boost your overall health.

Three Yelpers give Dr. Christopher Trahan 3.5 stars:

  • He's a very warm, caring, and patient person who welcomes questions about TCM (traditional chinese [sic] medicine) from his clients...he displays a sincere interest in your health and well-being. – Dolores R.
