The Issue: Women Seeking Employment
Since the start of the global economic crisis in 2008, the unemployment rate in the United States—currently just under 8%—has gotten as high as almost 10% of the adult population. Dress for Success Phoenix helps low-income women navigate this tough job market by providing professional clothes that fit well so that they can attend job interviews and provide for themselves and their families.<p>

Dress for Success Phoenix
Lisa Dormal dreamed of creating an upscale boutique where women from low-income backgrounds could prepare for job interviews. After gaining a degree in clothing textiles and fashion merchandising, and working in retail stores, she found a way for her dream to come true. In 2009, she opened the Phoenix chapter of Dress for Success, an organization dedicated to helping women find appropriate clothes for work, thereby increasing their self-confidence and putting them on the path to self-sufficiency. In 2011, the Phoenix chapter distributed suits to more than 760 women.
Additionally, Dormal teamed up with Chicanos Por La Causa to provide her clients with access to employment-retention programs. When women gain employment, Dress for Success Phoenix provides them with five additional outfits and membership in the Professional Women’s Group, which teaches financial and career skills to employed women.
