What You'll Get
The famous 18th-century poet and grape-scrapbooking aficionado Alexander Pope exhorted, “To err is human, but to wine is divine.” Heed his words of wisdom with today’s Groupon. For $10, you get a wine tasting of 10 varieties for you and a guest, as well as a bottle to take home from Dry Comal Creek Vineyards—a combined value of up to $35. This Groupon applies to non-reserve bottles. Located about 40 miles northeast of downtown, Dry Comal Creek Vineyards is the perfect to spend a romantic Saturday with a sweetheart or catch up with an old friend over heady sips.
Wine is an effective cure for ailments such as boredom, conversationitis, and pasta-mouth. At Dry Comal Creek, you’ll imbibe a wide range of home-bred, adult grape beverages that are complex and stimulating in a way that makes grape-juice boxes flush with jealousy. You and a friend will taste an array of 10 wines, from dry whites and reds to demi-sweet wines. The Mongrel Bastardo offers a tongueful of sweetness laced with pineapple and lemon, and Comal Red IX pairs perfectly with barbecue, lending its powerful bouquet of blackberry, cherry, and chocolate. With 10 educational palate-pleasers in your repertoire, you'll get one non-reserve bottle to take home.
Now home to the resilient Texas Black Spanish grape wines, Dry Comal Creek's 103 acres were once Franklin and Bonnie Houser's "retirement project." Today, the winery produces 8,000 cases a year, which is 7,999 cases more than your neighbor’s bathtub, and the fermented sippery has received almost as many awards, including the silver medal for the Sauvignon Blanc category at the 2009 San Antonio Wine Festival, the gold medal for their 1096 Port at the 2010 San Antonio Wine Festival, and a gold-medal finish at the annual Giant Grape Bowling Rally.
San Antonio Living has featured Dry Comal Creek Winery, offering a behind-the-scenes look into wine production, and seven TripAdvisors praise the superb staff and luscious libations with four owl eyes:
- The staff at Dry Comal Creek is so friendly; we were given very personal attention, and were welcomed to take our time. The wine they make is very smooth and has a wonderful balance in flavors. We really loved the Cabernet Sauvignon 2008... – minnyork
- The wines are wonderful Texas wines full of flavor, you will enjoy your time out there. – Tanania
- We could buy the wine at our local store, but it's always enjoyable stopping by and visiting with the great folks at the Vineyard. – MostlyTexan
