Apparently the Groupon does not cover any work that will be done. It is a credit and they have to do additional work if it is the first time the homes vents have ever been cleaned. I was told he couldn't do any actual work unless he charged me more that day. Although the work was good and my furnace is now spotless, I was disappointed there was a $125 charged that I wasn't expecting before any work was actually performed.

Forced-Air Furnaces: Let There Be Heat

The winter months would be nigh unbearable without central heating. Read on to learn how forced-air furnaces keep things toasty.

There’s nothing quite as awful as being able to see your breath on a cold winter’s night from your own living-room couch. Unfortunately, heating systems have been known to break down, often when the thermometer reaches its lowest depths. Although mechanics train for years to be able to fix faulty furnaces, the forced-air system itself is relatively straightforward, consisting of only four main parts: the thermostat, the burner, the heat exchanger, and the blower.

Once the thermostat senses that the air temperature has dropped below a set number (say, 72 degrees Fahrenheit), it sends an electrical signal to the burner. Attached to the burner is the gas valve, which controls the flow of fuel, and the igniter, which sets the fuel ablaze safely within the metal confines of the burner. Next to the burner is the heat exchanger, a piece of metal that warms quickly over the flames of the burner. The blower sends cold air whooshing over the exchanger, quickly raising the air’s temperature as it enters the duct system to warm the house and swiftly melt any snowmen snowballs trapped in the vents.

Bonus Points

  • Each room typically has two vents—one for the hot air and one to carry the colder air back to the furnace, where the cycle repeats.
  • As soon as the desired temperature is reached, the thermostat shuts off the burner to conserve energy.

Read the fine print! It ended up costing more than the Groupon amount, but the service was good!

After Groupon is given, then for other services, the price does increase. But, they did a good job and we are pleased.

They will try to do bait and switch on you. Clearly I purchased the duct cleaning and the guy said there is no value in doing that but instead, he will spray some antibacterial spray. When I called the customer service line, I was told that cleaning would take 2-3 hours. From set up to leaving the house, it took the guy 45 minutes. The antibacterial spray that he recommended, it would take 15 minutes according to the guy so this company was basically looking at ways to do the work in the shortest amount of time. Also, they charge me $30 (or $39 - don't recall) for a connection for the vacuum vent but the receipt they have me sign says "additional vaccum vent"...you guys only installed ONE, what do you mean additional. They also force you to do survey IN FRONT of the guy doing the work and he tells you straight up that he expects all "YES" for response. You can just imagine how awkward that was for me. Overall, I would not recommend it. When people tell you these groupons for vent cleaning are rip offs, they really are.

Understand that they will offer you add'l services that are out of pocket The deal is very basic, but still a great deal I added on the sanitizing of the ducts and cleaning of the HVAC unit to extend the life of it Worked out SO well - very clean air and no scent of anything
