Scientists agree that children are our future, which is why most children are sealed in time capsules with a flashlight and a stack of magazines. Give a child something he or she will really dig with today's deal: for $4, you get a single admission to DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville (up to a $8.50 value).

DuPage Children's Museum promotes an adult-child partnership in open-ended learning and discovery for children ages 6 months to 10 years. With admission, you, children, or grown children can explore "learning neighborhoods" designed to stimulate interest in math, science, the arts, and toothbrushes. The Build It neighborhood houses give kids hands- and hammers-on experience in the Construction House. Superheroes in training can get the Superman treatment in the AirWorks wind tunnel. The museum’s Interact with Art gallery pits young astronauts against imagined space aliens on the stage of The Play’s The Thing! Act II.

Three Young Explorers neighborhoods are also available for children ages 6–24 months who enjoy bright tones, toys, and pondering the difference between circles and squares.

Founded in 1987 as a ragtag collection of traveling exhibits, DuPage Children's Museum grew into its own temporary building in 1989, followed by a pilot location in 1992, finally setting in its colorful and accommodating Naperville location in 2001. The museum's exterior dutifully reflects its playful innards with eye-catching splashes of yellow, red, and blue. Be sure to check out any special events or activities planned during your visit, such free studio drop-ins, which explore different weekly themes in math, science, and art; summer sessions include Design a Car, Giant Monet, and Jet Packs. Join the museum for Family Fun Friday Nights; exhibits remain open until 8 p.m. through May 31, when the museum begins observing summer hours (the cost of events is not included with this Groupon).

DuPage Children's Museum

In 1987, Louise Beem and Dorothy Carpenter were early-childhood-education specialists. Based on their combined experience—gained from teaching preschool, founding the College of DuPage's early-childhood-education program, and being grandmothers—the two friends felt that traditional methods of teaching youngsters were less than optimal at the time. Their brainchild, the DuPage Children's Museum, began that same year. The pair designed the museum's colorful exhibits to incorporate interactive and open-ended elements, which they believed more closely matched the way kids learn and naturally process information, a discovery they say has now been corroborated by findings in neuroscience research.

In that vein, the three-story museum engages young neurons with interactive art, math, and science-themed attractions. Giving little hands the chance to explore, the AWEsome Electricity exhibit bridges the gap between the electric-powered gadgets and lights families use every day to where all that nonbreakfast-based energy comes from. Kids learn how electricity gets from one place to another and what its basic units are while at play in the museum's signature hands-on spaces. Elsewhere, the Young Explorers exhibit is designed for children aged 2 and under, who develop math skills by learning concepts such as sorting and patterning and express their creativity by experimenting with color and light.
