Pickles. That's why Hazel Duris planted her first cucumber vines in 1955. Those vines overperformed, though, so she and husband, Al, started selling the extra crops out of a roadside stand. From those humble beginnings came Duris Cucumber Farm, where members of the Duris family continue Hazel and Al's unexpected life's work. You can still buy cucumbers at the charming—though much expanded—stand, along with Hazel's trademark pickles, canning and pickling cookbooks, and canning supplies.
