Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

I just bought this but am not seeing how to install it on multiple computers like you said...

Amanda B.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

You could burn the second download file to a disk if you wanted or you could simply contact support@dvo.com if a download you purchased has expired. Given that they can verify your order, they can send you out a new link.

A:

Hi Amanda, when you redeem the code from our website you will be sent an Order Receipt which has your unique download code within the message. If you had multiple personal computers you wanted to install on, you could open this email up on the computer(s) where you want Cook'n accessible.

Q:

Can recipes be scanned into program, or must they all be typed in?

Sharon M.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

Sorry for the multiple answers! You can manually enter recipes yourself pretty quickly! Click here to watch a video demonstration.

You can also insert scanned images as recipe pictures. By using scanned recipes, you won't be able to take advantage of all of the Cook'n features (nutritional analysis, shopping list, etc.). However, many people chose to go this route to organize their recipes within one central database.

Q:

I have a PC now and am thinking of purchasing this to scan my 3 file boxes worth of recipes. Once I scan ALL these recipes, I plan to toss the paper. My question is this, IF, I purchase an iPad or a MAC in the future, are my recipes forever trapped in the PC?? Would I be able to load it to a CD or a stick to import to a MAC?

Melissa O.  asked on  Jan 22, 2013

A:

Good question. No, your recipes will not be trapped in the PC version. When we release the Cook'n Cloud service in a few weeks you will be able to create an account and once you have the apps or are using Cook'n on another computer, the recipe data will automatically sync with all the devices attached to your Cloud account.

Q:

1. I live between my house & taking care of my elderly mother's at hers. Can I download 1 onto my computer & one onto mine at her house, so that they will be "synced" and I can prepare menus for her there? Can I do it with one program, or need I buy 2? 2. Next question: I have a PC there, and here, for now, but will soon have a MAC at home. does the same program work for both, or do I have to choose when I redeem my coupon(s)? I ask because I saw 2 versions on your website. 3. When I switch to my MAC, I will need to unload the program off my household PC and reload onto the new Mac. Which of the 3 options you mention to you think is best? (put the 2nd download onto a disk, contact dvo customer service to confirm original purpose & then re-send download link, or buy...and then use...the $9.99 back up disk that is an additional) 4. How does the iPhone/iPad function work now, before the apps have been released? Is the info readable but not inputable? Is it syncing yet? when the new apps go up, will they they enable the syncing to the computer? How do I get on the mailling list for that?

Jennifer Y.  asked on  Jan 22, 2013

A:

Hi Jennifer, our policy allows you to install to multiple computers within the same household but you would need to purchase another copy for another residence. Then you could still sync recipes via the Cook'n Cloud. At checkout, you won't have to choose between PC or Mac as your download link will give you access to both. When you switch computers my recommendation would be to contact support for the link if you need it or for simplicity you could purchase the backup CD. The apps are not yet available on the market but here is how to get on the mailing list for more info: http://www.dvo.com/mobile-apps-update.php

Q:

In one of the videos it said you can synk cook n from my computer to my iPad and phone... Is that done through this program? Or is that only done after I purchase the new apps when they come out? I need to down load, scan, print etc from my computer but I want to view my recipes in my kitchen on my iPad and shop ingredients from my iPhone. BB

Beverly B.  asked on  Jan 22, 2013

A:

Hi, this will be available as soon as the apps are ready.

Q:

I have a PC now and if I purchase this, that is where I will locate my recipes. I do plan to make a copy of the download on a CD or memory stick in case I need a backup. My question is this - If for some reason, down the road, I purchase an iPad to replace my PC, would I be able to use my saved download from the CD or memory stick to load on the iPad? I would HATE to scan all my favorite recipes to the system (and discard all that paper) and then not be able to retrieve them if I ever made the switch to the iPad.

Melissa O.  asked on  Jan 21, 2013

A:

In a few weeks the Cook'n Cloud service will be available, meaning that if you create an account, all of your recipes will be stored in the cloud and will sync to all versions/apps associated with your account. In this way transferring all the recipes to your iPad will be effortless. Keep in mind though that the apps will be sold separately (within the Apple Store for the iPad)

Q:

I have both an iPad and an iphone that I'm interested in using with Cook'n when the apps come out. Will I have to buy a separate app for each device? How much are they going to cost?

Barbara H.  asked on  Jan 21, 2013

A:

Hi Barbara. We are looking into a combined option for those that want to use on both an iPad and iPhone. Price has not yet been determined.

Yes. You can choose any of the titles for this offer.

Q:

Hi, if I purchase the downloadable version now, once the iPad version is available, will you offer a discount, or, am I better off waiting until it's available since I use primarily my iPad for recipes?

vera h.  asked on  Jan 19, 2013

A:

Because this app will be sold within the Apple store, we are not as flexible to offer discounts, specials, etc. for targeted groups (like existing customers). Therefore, I would only purchase this PC or Mac version if you intend to use on your computer.
