Between long days tilling soil and harvesting crops, the horticulturalists of Earthwise Gardens organize the Earthwise Local Food Festival, an annual celebration of local produce and contemporary art. Green-loving groups descend like cage-free locusts upon the farm’s grounds for a day of natural eating and revelry, featuring a local menu of produce from Denton Juice Co. and Denton Vegan Cooperative, locally roasted coffee from Bookish Coffee, and—for each of-age visitor—a complimentary cup of beer brewed by Indy Ales in Aubrey. Texan artists show off their works at the Wise Earth: Art & Land in Texas exhibition, including such media as installation pieces, video, performance, and graphic art. Live musicians are on hand all day to provide a backbeat to the festivities, with music and storytelling for children taking place early in the day. The excitement reaches its peak during the raffle drawing, with a juicer as the grand prize and runners-up receiving as much soil as they can jam in their pockets.
