Gill-less humans first attempted to explore the sea's floor by drawing oxygen from puffer fish during underwater make-out sessions. Emulate breathing from below with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get a Try Scuba lesson for two people with East Coast Divers in Brookline (a $60 value). Lessons about a 10-minute drive from the dive shop.
East Coast Divers’ certified instructors help prospective lungfish plunge into the watery depths through scuba training. In the Try Scuba skills classes, flipper-bearers will learn to breathe with special equipment and maneuver in an underwater environment. Swimmers spend an hour in the shallow end of the crystalline canyon, soaking up chlorine and increasing their sub-aquatic confidence.
Students should bring their own bathing suits, towels, and waterproof jigsaw puzzles to class. Each session includes the use of all required scuba gear, which dive teachers will help set up and break down before and after the lesson. Kids ages 10 and older can dive with a signed waver when accompanied by a guardian. Class runs the first Sunday of the month at 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays the following weeks at 7:30 p.m.
- They have professional staff that are eager to teach you and they answered all my questions and put my fears to rest. The equipment that they sell is of good quality and the staff helps you pick out equipment that is useful to you and the right size for you. After my lessons I felt very confident to go diving on my own. – Ish K., Insider Pages
- All of the instructors were fabulous -- taking their jobs seriously while at the same time creating a welcoming, fun, and stress-free environment in which to learn how to SCUBA. – Amy C., Yelp, 11/14/10
