Disney's The Lion King swept Broadway by storm when it opened in 1997, and now has become the most successful musical in history. Partial credit for that is due to Garth Fagan, who won a Tony Award for his choreography in the musical. A trailblazer of modern dance, Fagan's signature style blends the weight of modern, the vibrancy of Afro-Caribbean, the speed and precision of ballet and the risk-taking experimentation of post-modernism. Now, witness Fagan's unique style at Los Angeles' Nate Holden Performing Arts Center. The evening will include the West Coast premiere of Geoffrey Holder Life Fete... Bacchanal, his tribute to Holder, best known for his direction of the Broadway musical The Wiz, as well as several other of the master's stunning works.
