Aside from climbing out of rattlesnake-infested quicksand or posing for rattlesnake-infested watercolour portraits, few activities combine the focus and physicality seen in mixed-martial-arts training. Fine-tune your reaction time with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get a 20-class pass for martial-arts instruction at Edmonton Mixed Martial Arts (a $200 value).
Performing martial-arts training since 1989, Edmonton Mixed Martial Arts hones student skills in the dual realms of fitness and self-defense. This package bestows pupils with a 20-class pass, teaching techniques for disciplining Scrabble cheaters in such styles as muay thai, kickboxing, tae kwon do, kung fu, Japanese ju-jitsu, and Brazilian ju-jitsu. Using the mixed-martial-arts philosophy of blending distinct fighting styles—stand-up, clinch, grappling, and full-contact public speaking—students embark on a rigorous schedule to build confidence, self-discipline, coordination, focus, and flexibility. Learn to turn an attacker's own attacks and 10-gallon hat against him with ju-jitsu’s balance-shattering grappling and strikes, or combat using hands, elbows, knees, feet, and physics degree in the full-body muay thai style. Edmonton MMA conducts its power-enhancing programs for both adults and children.
Edmonton Mixed Martial Arts
Michael Woodford, master instructor at Edmonton Mixed Martial Arts, began studying martial arts at age 6, and over a lifetime of studies, he has earned black belts in ju-jitsu, karate, and tae kwon do and wisdom in the arts of Muay Thai kickboxing and Wing Chun. Throughout his experience in multiple disciplines, Michael has come to believe that the key to any martial arts style is achieving confidence and self-discipline, and that self-defense skills and strength will develop with these assets in place. In his studio, experienced instructors don practice pads or hire a stunt double and teach kids, teens, and adults distancing techniques and hand-to-hand fighting methods. Their practical and functional curriculum blends styles including karate, Muay Thai, kickboxing, tae kwon do, kung fu, Japanese fujitsu, and Brazilian ju-jitsu.
