Eight Elements West
In 1984, Gloria was working as a waitress when a customer changed her life. He'd started his own business, he said, and when she asked why, he said, "I wanted to." Gloria realized then that forging her own path through life could be simple if she decided what she wanted and committed to it. A few days later she took off her apron, quit her job, and with her parents Joaquin and Helga—whom Gloria calls "the shaman and the philosopher"—fueling her "thirst for deeper life wisdom and compassion," she started Eight Elements West.
Part school and part clinic, Eight Elements West is a holistically minded practice where clients have found balance and health for more than 25 years. In its studio, ocean views make up one wall while mirrors make up another, flanking hardwood floors that invite students to practice yoga, Barre, and Nia—a body-spirit exercise that draws from marital arts and dance. Energy healing, massage, and acupuncture, meanwhile, help heal in the business's integrative clinic.
