Though coveting thy neighbor's wife or underground sprinkler system is beyond the pale, longing for a mouthful of his cuisine is an understandable desire. Today's Groupon satisfies desires to eat from the table of our nation's neighbor: for $15, you get $30 worth of traditional Mexican fare at El Castor in North Dallas. This Groupon is not valid toward alcohol.
The family-owned El Castor operates three locations in Mexico and expanded to the Dallas area in February to dish out fresh, authentic Mexican fare made from scratch using homemade recipes. Start a journey into deliciousness with two queso natural quesadillas ($2.95) or the coronel tacos with fresh shrimp marinated in a spicy house sauce ($7.95). Try on a tongue-jacket made of carne con chili, made of a spicy beef-and-mixed-chilis shell lined with rice and beans ($10.95), or surprise sleeping taste buds with a chiles rellenos ($14.95) alarm. For seafood-fueled humans, El Castor's fresh coastal dishes effectively combine authentic sauces with camarones a la crema, shrimp marinated in a creamy house mushroom sauce ($13.95), as well as a red snapper prepared tableside ($23.95).
On the other side of its strip-mall facade lurks an interior so bright and festive you'd think it was located in the center of the spinny wheel from Wheel of Fortune. El Castor's insides offer enough warmth to keep families, friends, and families of your friends as soft as just-baked oven rolls.
Although El Castor has limited online reviews, four Yelpers do give it a four-star average:
- This place is amazing. The food is very fresh and the service is prompt. I went for lunch last Friday for the 1st time had the fish tacos. Brilliant! – Brian J.
