Like most modern conflicts, the rivalry between soft and hard tacos will not end until one side gets eaten by a bear. Broker a culinary truce with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Mexican and Tex-Mex fare at El Patron Restaurant & Cantina's locations in Cedar Park and Georgetown.

The chefs at El Patron turn ordinary dinnertimes into colorful fiestas with a delectable menu of authentic Mexican and homespun Tex-Mex eats. Tortilla-chip boats transport the precious cargo of El Patron queso ($6.99 for a full order) to toothy shores, heaping the cheesy mixture of ground beef, pico de gallo, and guacamole onto grateful taste buds and the occasional lucky bib. Served with homemade soft flour tortillas, fajita platters ($10.99+) whisk teeth on a multitextured trip through layers of sizzling onions and peppers, piling on optional carry-ons of charbroiled beef, chicken, shrimp, or fresh veggies. Two corn tortillas in mole sauce enclose a bounty of chicken and guacamole in the enchiladas de mole ($8.49), and for the steak ranchero ($13.99), ranchero sauce drapes 12 ounces of top sirloin charbroiled to perfection and ratified to statehood by eager chefs.

El Patron's booths and tables bask beneath the gaze of the intimate dining room's hanging lanterns as neon bar signs and brickwork arches beautify the eatery's red and tan walls.

El Patron Restaurant & Cantina

When he immigrated to America, Jesse Berenji took a job in the kitchen at a family member's Mexican restaurant. By keeping a close eye on all aspects of the business, he was soon able to pioneer his own Mexican place—El Patron Restaurant & Cantina. The cooks here fry hand-breaded boneless-chicken breast drizzled with cilantro sauce, for example, and prepare El Patron fajitas—chicken and beef with sautéed veggies on a heated platter, served with homemade tortillas for creating edible Venn diagrams. The menu even touches on American classics such as burgers and chicken tenders.
