From its decor to its cuisine, Elephant Lounge is the epitome of eclectic. Although elephants are a key element of the interior's motif, the restaurant houses several distinct seating areas. One features cushioned chairs and couches around low-slung, Middle Eastern–inspired tables. Elsewhere, a gleaming chandelier imported from Czechoslovakia casts a warm glow over the main dining room's sleek tiles, gold accessories, and floor-to-ceiling wine case. Neon lights illuminate the dark-wood bar, accented by ornate crown molding.
The menu is just as varied. Chef "Junior" Ranjit focuses on Indian fare, offering plenty of tandoori and biryani dishes. However, several American and Italian options are also available, as well as 11 sauces that range from Punjabi-style curry to a unique combination of pomegranate and marsala. The diversity is intentional, he told The Fresno Bee: "I wanted to create something where everybody could be happy."
