Located approximately an hour's drive from Cincinnati, Louisville, and Lexington, Elk Creek accommodates on-the-fly romantic getaways and friendly afternoons out with its wine tastings, which spotlight five selections from its more than 30-label cellar. Tongue-tour the winery's light, sweet grape blood with the Crazy Elk option, or put the spotlight on a selection of its drier, more full-bodied wines with the Pronghorn tasting. Elk Creek’s informed sommelier squad guides tipplers through each dram, drawing their attention to each wine’s individual balance, flavor notes, and favorite films. At the tasting’s conclusion, you'll be sent home with a bottle of wine (up to a $20 value) from Elk Creek’s inventory and a pair of souvenir wine glasses (a $6 value).
Because wine can augment fun but not create it, Elk Creek also hosts regular summer concerts. From the grass of the vineyard's outdoor amphitheater, acoustic appreciators can sip a glass of vino and bask in the summer sunset while enjoying live music from a diverse array of local artists, including the reggae band Herbal Krew and award-winning bluegrass troupe The Grascals.
Elk Creek Vineyards
Ensconcing visitors in spacious rooms surrounded by 30 lush acres of grapevines, Elk Creek Vineyards merges the grandeur of Napa Valley with Kentucky hospitality. Among three discrete lodgings, the Estates' wraparound deck sounds the creak of rocking chairs, the Inn's communial living room welcomes late-night conversation, and the Lodge's private decks open up onto vineyard and lake. Live entertainment Friday through Sunday keeps eardrums occupied, and a gallery exhibits the creations of local artists. During tastings and tours, guests sample the vineyard's products and stroll through the fields, popping grapes to figure out which ones are alcoholic, and a variety of wine gifts are on hand for visitors to peruse. The tasting specialists offer a free tour of the winery Monday through Saturday at 10:30 am and 4:00 pm and at 1:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Sundays. Wine and painting parties are offered and the tasting room can be booked for special events, holding up to 30 people, or 20 seated, and wine and cheese is provided.
