Named after prolific inventor Sterling Elliott, the fun and friendly Elliott Museum has something for everyone. It’s so much a part of local life that it’s hard to tell where the museum ends and Martin County begins—literally. The award-winning new building was designed to blend in with the local landscape, and its exterior matches the colors and textures of the sand and rock prevalent in the area.
The natural-looking walls aren’t the main attraction, though. That would be the exhibits inside. You can see bicycles, boats, cars, trucks, baseball memorabilia, Americana, and even a plane. The museum features a three-level mechanical car racking system displaying more than 50 rare and vintage automobiles and another two dozen that you can see up-close. Currently on display in the Changing Exhibition Gallery is The History of Surfing in Florida.
