Experienced instructors lead demonstrations & sessions on practice bar that culminate in hands-on trapeze swinging

Becoming an acrobat is a more poised method of defying gravity than riding on an astronaut's back or repeating everything Isaac Newton says in a falsetto voice. Soar stylishly with today's Groupon: for $37, you get a flying-trapeze-class package at Emerald City Trapeze Arts (up to a $74 total value). The package includes:

  • A two-hour flying-trapeze class (a $48 value)
  • A waiver of the registration fee (a $26 value)

Emerald City's instructors welcome aerial enthusiasts of all levels to experience the sky-splitting thrill of the flying trapeze. Expertly guided and safe trapeze adventures begin with a succinct stretching session before pupils develop balancing skills on a practice bar. From there, the basics of proper takeoffs, swinging, and body positioning are added to students' acrobatic tool belts. Leaping learners acquire skills at their own pace and obtain new techniques with ample demonstrations by Emerald City's circus-grade instructors. When ready, class-goers are able to swing through the arena and catch their teacher's hands in midair—proving to formerly doubting third-grade gym teachers that they can, in fact, trapeze with ease. With classes scheduled every day of the week, aspiring acrobats can fly in on their own time and experience the blissful perspective of no longer being glued to the surly bonds of the earth.

About Emerald City Trapeze Arts

Once upon a time, the Canal Boiler Works building in SODO housed Seattle's blacksmiths, who spent their days harnessing the power of fire and steel. Today, the building is still around, but its tenants tap into a different kind of power. Beneath a wood-beam ceiling, the aerialists of Emerald City Trapeze Arts fly through a 20,000 square foot studio, learning classic circus and trapeze skills from instructors with decades of experience. During aerial arts classes, students engage with silks, hoops, and ropes suspended in midair, mastering artful, fluid motions while simultaneously boosting their strength and coordination. Trapeze classes take things even higher; the studio's full-sized trapeze rig towers 30 feet in the air, recreating the thrills of big-top flips for beginners and seasoned aerialists alike. The space also invites students to try their hands at several other classic apparatus, including Trampoline and Cyr Wheel.

Although the air is their natural habitat, Emerald City Trapeze Arts' instructors teach earthbound classes, as well. Tumbling classes unlock youngsters' inner acrobats with cartwheels and somersaults, while pole fitness classes introduce the tricks and transitions needed to develop a full dance routine.
