During classes for martial arts, students learn defensive skills, discipline, and street awareness. Kickboxing instruction promotes weight-loss, stretching techniques, stamina, endurance, and improves overall fitness level, burning over 500 calories per session.
Emerald Dragon Karate
Emerald Dragon Karate's certified instructors, led by ninth-degree black belt Brian Kates, train students in Sa-Gi-Do, a powerful, well-rounded style of karate developed by Kates himself. The style incorporates the kicking, punching, grasping, and grappling of five traditional arts, including Tang Soo Do and Judo. With these techniques at their core, programs for students as young as 3 instill a balanced mix of defensive skills, discipline, and street awareness. Once they've mastered some foundational techniques, students can move onto one of EDK's more advanced classes, such as the weapons program. There, participants learn how to wield a bo staff or sword—skills that come in handy while fending off an opponent or trying to open a birthday gift in memorable fashion. In addition to this traditional martial arts training, the studio also hosts fitness-oriented kickboxing classes that help students shed fat through cardio-friendly sparring and strike work.
