Nobody plays guitar like Tommy Emmanuel. He's not a rock god like Jimi Hendrix or a blues maestro like B.B. King -- he's got his own thing going, and you can see for yourself at Phoenix's Mesa Arts Center. Emmanuel's approach derives from the complex fingerstyle technique, which requires the guitarist to play bass lines, chords, melodies and harmonies simultaneously using the thumb and fingers of the right hand, demonstrating a dynamic range of sound. Such versatility allows Emmanuel to explore a number of genres, including blues, folk, rock, country and jazz, and you'll hear them all when he performs live. The real highlight of the evening, though, will be his rendition of "Classical Gas," which recently appeared on an episode of American Dad.
