Before going in for your treatment session, avoid a lot of sun exposure for about four weeks prior, such as tanning.

Additionally, avoid using any peels or harsh chemicals before the treatment. It is also a good idea to avoid waxing before getting IPL.

Finally, be aware of what medications you are taking before the treatment as some, such as aspirin, can increase bleeding.

Then, a gel will be rubbed on your skin, which should be clean and free of any makeup. You will also have to wear glasses to protect your eyes from the light.

The session will last anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

In general, clients usually feel a level of discomfort in IPL. However, the sensation is not unbearable. Most patients compare it to being slapped with a rubber band.
