  • Two indoor fields spanning 25,000 square-feet

Paintball is a lot like chess in that both require complex strategizing and both are almost impossible to win against autonomous robots. Stick to competing against oxygen-breathers with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get three hours of paintball play, equipment, and 140 paintballs (a $31 value) at Escape Sonoma County in Rohnert Park.

Escape Sonoma, an indoor entertainment center for action-starved adults and kinetic kids alike, boasts 25,000 square-feet of paintball-playing space, broken into two fields that can hold up to 120 players at a time. Spend three hours inside a chroma-dome, fully equipped with a jumpsuit, plastic armor, air canisters, 140 paintballs, and a list of safe words. The professional field has 15,000 square feet of artificial turf and inflatable obstacles and the neighboring Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) field presents amateur human sprayers with urban-inspired obstructions made from abandoned furniture-showroom partitions, discarded appliances, street vendors, an old VW Beetle chassis, and a pickup bed.

Escape Sonoma, birthed from the ashes of an abandoned furniture store, designed its courses with the help of Ryan Podesta, professional paintballer and expert stain remover. In 2006, Mr. Podesta put his paint-slapping past to good use, creating courses and team-building programs to help soldiers transitioning from war.

Escape has been featured in the PressDemocrat and North Bay Business Journal. Four Yelpers give the business a 3.5-star average.

  • Whether you’re playing professionally or for the first time, Escape offers 25,000 square-feet of paintball playing space broken into two fields that can hold up to 120 players at a time. – Joelle Burnette, PressDemocrat
  • I think you will really appreciate the fact it's indoors with AC, plenty of lighting and low sound buffering ceilings so it's not too loud when everyone is shooting. – Erik G., Yelp, 7/26/2010

About Escape Sonoma County

Escape curates friendly competition within its 45,000-square-foot facility, which houses massive paintball and laser-tag arenas. The faux-combat emporium houses two indoor paintball fields, including a castle-themed map in which players defend flags just like peasants did in the days of medieval paint arrowing. Ribbons of light cut through the ominous fog that hangs over the 5,000-square-foot Q-ZAR Lazertag arena, a maze-like structure illuminated by black lights and soundtracked with high-octane beats. After rounds of recreational warfare, guests can relax at Escape's arcade or tap into the building-wide wireless Internet to send an email ordering an ambush on an unsuspecting pal.
