This Groupon side deal gets you cocktail-competent, wine-wise, and beer-bright with a 40-hour bartending course at Estrela Bartending School. In just two weeks (or five weekends), you'll be rimming glasses, mixing cosmos, and sliding perfectly frothed lagers across the bar faster than famous bartender Shaun Cassidy solved The Secret Jade of Kuan Yin using only two shot glasses and a wet rag.
The bartending curriculum has bar setup, drink recipes, and speed training for coursework, and beer, wine, and liquor knowledge for required reading. Estrela's fun and energetic alcohol experts do more than recite recipes. They teach the history and production of booze, Colorado legal and health requirements, glassware, garnishes, etiquette, and tools of the bar. You'll emerge with a backhand speedpour more skilled than Tom Cruise's in Minority Report, plus a TIPS alcohol safety certification just like the one Tom Cruise earned in the final scene of Days of Thunder. You don't need certification to bartend in Colorado, but you do need the ethics, alcohol awareness, customer service knowledge, and information about jobs in restaurants and nightclubs taught in this course to land a post behind a bar.
A good bartender can make decent money, and liquor consumption might be the only thing that goes up during a recession. Even if you don't turn pro, earn the respect of an Olympic-level amateur by transforming your friends' parties into a gourmet cocktail experience. Take classes during the day or in the evenings Monday through Friday for a two-week session, or learn on Saturdays over the course of five weeks (click here to see a schedule).
The classroom is an inviting lounge with warm tones, comfortable leather couches, and wood tables, and the sports-themed in-house bar is fully stocked. Estrela Bartending School was started by Tom Lucas, formerly of Cherry Creek Grill, and just opened in July. This Groupon is a better deal than the $199 August special on its site, which requires you bring a friend. It's registered with the Colorado Department of Higher Education and ready to deliver mixology and the art of entertaining to Denver.
Estrela Bartending School opened in July, so it's still pretty new. Check out its Facebook page to see what some of Estrela's more than 70 fans are saying about it.
