What You'll Get
Like fire-station poles, dancers’ poles allow sweaty professionals to perform their duties much more effectively than they could if they had to use water slides. Learn to use the right equipment for the job with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get a one-hour pole-dance basics class at Exotic Dance Workshops in Pine Brook (a $40 value).
Featured in the New York Times and on The Colbert Report, Exotic Dance Workshops pole instructor Johnna Cottam has been earning attention by teaching women of all ages and flexibilities the art of exotic dance in a supportive environment. During the pole-dance basics class, students spin and swagger through a series of pole tricks, mastering how to slide in heels like glamorous baseball players.
All classes start with a 15-minute warm-up stretch and “booty work” workout before students engage in supervised gallivanting on one of four poles. The studio guarantees newcomers will strut away with command of at least one new pole-dance move. The 4–10 person class sizes ensure no two-legged twirler spends much time pole-less. Exotic Dance Workshops encourages students to bring high heels so they don't have to rig them out of sandals and spare thermometers. Check the schedule for class time information.
