Playing laser tag with lasers is a safer alternative to playing freeze tag with liquid nitrogen. Battle friends the safe way with today's Groupon: for $15, you get seven games of Secret Agent LazerTag at Family Fun Center (a $34.93 value). All seven games can be redeemed at once by multiple users or during multiple visits.

The LazerTag arena at Family Fun Center pits laser- and sensor-equipped fighters against one another in a three-tiered spy-themed battlefield. Like a wedding cake, but not as edible, the secret-agent-style layers pack enough excitement and black-tie-elegance to keep even the most finicky great uncles from boredom. During the heat of battle, players deftly maneuver a black-lit bunker, navigate a warehouse, and shuffle through a high-rise building while trying to laser strike their opposition and enforce real-estate taxes on conquered coordinates. Following each music-filled standoff, players receive a scorecard detailing the top shooters and scorers but withholding details of who spent the most time cowering in the corner. Armed with seven play passes, groups of friends, foes, or math teachers can settle personal vendettas during 10-minute laser-light skirmishes or individual players can play up to seven games in a row or spread out contests across six months.

The Family Fun Center XL

On a sweltering day with the air abuzz with mosquitos, Eddie Reznicek stood on a miniature golf course marveling at how many people were outside putting. Determined to create a more comfortable mini golfing space, he opened The Family Fun Center XL in Omaha in 1982, where guests could play indoor golf and nearly 100 video games in the arcade. These days, a new facility shelters a black-lit 18-hole course themed around video-game heroes, heroines, and the windmills who loved them, and the arcade enthralls gamers with classics such as air hockey, skeeball, and four-player Mario Kart on 27-inch flat-screen TVs.

At the Lazer Maze, participants channel their inner spy while swiftly snaking through alarm-system lasers. This spy theme also is evident in the three-level laser-tag arena, where players dodge enemy fire amid flashing lights to soundtracks from James Bond movies. Elsewhere, a 2,500-square-foot arena littered with bunkers, crumbling brick walls, and sniper towers accommodates 7-minute paintball games or bazooka-ball battles.

  • “Fun, Friendly, Food is good and inexpensive”

  • “Was smaller than the previous location, but had a lot of fun! Great place to go have some indoor fun with games and friends on the cheap! :)”

  • “Classic games like pinball would be a nice addition.”
