What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
Athletic ability is not required. This is an academy of martial science and discipline. All training is based on the art of movement. Techniques come from kung fu, taijutsu, tai chi, and Philippine arts. All learning and progression is based on the individual.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
The head instructor, Hanshi (10th-degree black belt) J P Nelson, was an abused child born with Tourette syndrome, ADD, OCD, and dyslexia. Combat martial arts is the vessel with which he has traversed his life and to deal with neurological challenges without medications.
What do you love most about your job?
The opportunity to pass on knowledge and act as a positive role model through teaching and books. (The Counter, Catch, Carry series is available in paperback and Kindle via Amazon.com.)
