Long ago, Scottish polo players longed for a game in which they could explore scenic terrain, ride an obedient mechanical horse, and wear more courageously plaid knickers. Marvel in their subsequent invention with today's Groupon: for $60, you get 18 holes of golf, plus use of a golf cart and practice facilities, range balls, and lunch at FarmLinks in Sylacauga (a $135 value). This Groupon is valid Sunday–Thursday. FarmLinks operates in harmony with its diverse landscape to provide an 18-hole course complete with elevation changes, stunningly clear fairways, and acres of neatly cropped green grass. The 7,444-yard course was chiseled out of 3,500 acres of land, much like Michelangelo carved the statue of David out of a shapeless pile of Nickelodeon Gak. A game of golf at FarmLinks comes complete with ice-cold apples and mango-scented towels delivered to players on the course on hot days.
Nestled in the hills and surrounded by countless leafy trees, FarmLinks gives golfers the chance to appreciate the man-made through the game of golf, the nature-made through golfers' surroundings, and the alien-overlord-made through their every thought and perception. In addition, a game at FarmLinks comes with a traditional Southern-style lunch in the clubhouse.
Family owned and operated since 1999 by the Pursell family, FarmLinks is much more than just a golf course. With a research and demonstration facility, hotel, shooting range, and fish, wildlife, and oompa-loompa habitat, FarmLinks provides as many opportunities for learning as it does for recreation.
