About Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour
Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour was born in 1963 when Robert "Bob" Farrell opened up shop in Portland, Oregon. By 1970, the restaurant was so popular that it had expanded to 58 locations, which then grew to 130 locations nationwide. But while under new ownership, the ice-cream shop was reimagined as a family-style restaurant, and eventually, almost all the locations closed.
But Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour got another chance in 2009, when a new owner revived not only the eatery, but also its original style. Waiters wear old-fashioned vests, ties, and hats and serve a variety of food that shows diners just why Farrell's was so popular in the good old days.
Diners can start with apps like chili cheese fries and fried dill pickles, or pick one of nine salads for something lighter. Entree options are plentiful, from half-pound burgers and club sandwiches to buffalo mac and hawaiian pizza. Whatever comfort food diners choose, they need to make room for the most important meal of the day: dessert. There's something for every sweet tooth, from the classics like banana splits and hand-scooped floats, to the new-fangled ice-cream nachos, where waffle cone pieces are covered in ice cream, fudge, marshmallow fluff, and nuts. And for those looking to prove there's no such thing as too much ice cream, the hot-fudge volcano features 30 scoops of ice cream topped with molten chocolate fudge.
