About Fatsos Last Stand
Previously known as Phil's Last Stand, the name of this popular grub joint may have changed, but the food maintains the originality and high quality that originally sent critics flocking here when it opened in 2012. Eater recently gushed that "The char dogs might be the best in town" and Zagat rated the Fatso burger No.3 in Chicago, beating out other perennial list-toppers.
Though small, Fatso's Last Stand's bright-red exterior makes it hard to miss. Picnic tables outside enable diners to eat alfresco in warmer months and inside, a charcoal grill stays fired up as late as 4 a.m on the weekends. The grill's flames crisp the natural casing on hot dogs and polish sausages and brand burgers with evenly spaced lines. Freshly breaded jumbo shrimp is also a can't-miss, whether as a half-pound order or as the seven-pound enormous po' boy that makes up the Fatso's Po'Boy Challenge. Anyone brave enough to try the challenge must finish the seven-pound behemoth in an hour to win a $100 gift certificate, t-shirt, name plaque on the wall, and at least three pats on the back. Open as late as 4 a.m. on weekends.
